With daily life as we know it currently up in the air, we have been reflecting back on our last pre-lockdown garden room build, and catching up with our customers to see how having a garden studio has impacted their lives. And we are pleased to report, the answer is extremely positively!
This beautiful family garden room, built in Weald, Kent, was finished just before we were forced to down-tools, and for this family, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. The gorgeous rural location of this build came with its own challenges, as the tricky site area included a gradient, sewer pipes, an existing patio and raised flower beds. But no challenge is too great for the eDEN team, and even through some exceptionally wet conditions we worked to clear the site. After organising a garden sewer survey to map out the exact route of the pipes, our team proceeded to plot the extra-long screw-piles (required due to the slope) to carefully (and successfully) avoid the sewer pipe.
This bespoke family garden room was originally designed to be an extra social space with a cinema screen, but as the project was finished just days before the schools closed, the space has been used in many diverse ways whilst the family have been in lock-down; from music room, to work-out space. Our client even enjoyed a candle-lit dinner in there, organised by her children, and the family have been using the cinema screen to live-stream weekly Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals and even to join Joe Wicks’ daily P.E. classes! It’s safe to say that in the short time they have had the room, they have certainly made the most of the space.
The garden room design is a spacious 7m x 4m layout, featuring a handy side storage area (in our client’s words, a god-send with three teenagers!) and with a large set of 4 bi-fold doors, shouldered by two extra floor-to-ceiling windows to let in bags of light. Our customer says these windows are one of her favourite features in the garden room, providing extra perspective and views of the house and garden that they had never been able to enjoy before.
Our customer said “the eDEN team were very easy to deal with, competent and very thorough with their process. Even before the build, they were very detailed in their approach to planning, and made fantastic recommendations about where to position the garden room to make the most of it and the surrounding trees. We are so pleased with our new space and have already been recommending eDEN to other people.”
Once lockdown is over, the family look forward to continuing to use the room as a multi-functional social space, and hope they can one day use it to host parties for both teens and adults.
